Mendelssohn's music contains some of the most well known tunes in classical music, and the Italian Symphony and overture to Die Erste Walpurgisnacht are no exception. Inspired by sunny skies, beautiful scenery and rich cultural life Mendelssohn experienced on his travels, the 'Italian' symphony is a whirlwind tour through religious processions and classic Italian dance figurations.
