Belfast Print Workshop have a new exhibition opening at the Ormeau Baths Gallery this Thursday!

‘Editions’ Exhibition

Opening Night Thursday 10th September

Exhibition Continues Until Saturday 3rd October

Ormeau Baths Gallery (OBG) in conjunction with Belfast Print Workshop (BPW) are hosting what promises to be an exciting and inherently emotive art exhibition. BPW have a long standing artist in residence programme whereby they encourage artists who originate from various artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, as well as printmaking and even performance art, to develop their knowledge and ability in the specialist field of printmaking. Their artists in residence programmes have been running since 1977 and over the years some truly gifted artists have managed to create some fascinating works of art. The ‘Editions’ exhibition will contain a range of prints from ten selected artists that have had the opportunity to use the facilities and the expertise of the staff at BPW since 2003; these ten artists will also exhibit artworks from their own specialist practice. Viewers of this exhibition will be shocked as to the quality and complexity of the prints produced by some of the artists who had little experience in printmaking prior to their residency with BPW, not to mention the outstanding works created in their own field. Conversely some of the artists exhibiting originate from a printmaking background, which will make for an interesting comparison of the works on display.

BPW are also hosting a variety of educational workshops at OBG throughout the exhibition, these courses are being held on Thursdays during the three-week exhibition by printmaker, OBG and BPW art tutor Anu Sundaralingam, no experience is necessary and materials will be provided. There will also be school workshops that provide an introduction to printmaking, suitable for GCSE to A-Level students, booking is essential, 2 weeks in advance. The BPW Editions exhibition hopes to encourage people to feel inspired to try new forms of printmaking for themselves or attempt to work in the practice for the very first time.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that BPW also have 'The Big Draw' exhibition running in their gallery space in Victoria Square, there will be late night opening on Friday 25th to tie in with The Cathedral Quarter Culture Night, the exhibition will be running until October 10th and on the last day of the exhibition BPW are hosting a free drawing workshop from 12pm-4pm in the workshop at Cotton Court which is open to the public.
