Harri Pälviranta (b. Tampere, 1971) has a BA in photography and an MA in Mediescience from Turku Arts Academy and has studied political science and philosophy at Tampere University in Finland. He is currently working on a PhD. at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.
Pälviranta's first solo exhibition was about men, their roles and identity. For his graduation project at the Arts Academy of Turku, he presented photos of World War II combat fields and other sites of violence under the title Badscapes. He continued to explore the connections between the world of men and violence in the 2007 exhibition Battered. Pälviranta found his subjects when he accompanied the police in Turku in their investigations of violence at night. Apart from taking photographs, Pälviranta also writes about photography.
