FLAMENCO DANCING, FLAMENCO GUITAR -

World renowned dancer, teacher and choreographer Felipe de Algeciras will be performing in the Black Box as part of the Flamenco Pena of students from FlamencoNI on Sunday August 2nd.

Born in Algeciras Felipe started dancing at the age of 13. In his late teens he founded and became chief choreographer for “El Grupo SoleĆ””. He moved to London in 1991 where he performed at the Shaw Theatre. Following his debut in England Felipe has gone on to dance at Sadlers Wells, the House of Commons and has appeared with the English National Opera at London’s Coliseum. Felipe’s powerful footwork can be heard throughout the sound track for the film “The Mask of the Zorro” staring Antonio Banderas and most recently has launched his own company “Alma”. Felipe spent last year touring in Japan, Dubai, France and Austria but has now returned his native Algeciras, Spain where he continues to teach and perform.

CHANCE TO LEARN FLAMENCO DANCING AND FLAMENCO GUITAR

Felipe de Algeciras will also be teaching a 4 day Intensive Flamenco Dance course from Friday July 31st until Monday, August 3rd. All classes will be accompanied by guitarist Lucas Gonzalez, www.myspace.com/gonzalezlucas who will also teach a one hour guitar class each day. A cajon class may also be offered (details of which have yet to be confirmed).

Felipe will teach 2 levels, Elementary and Intermediate. Each class will last 1 1/2 hours on all 4 days. On the Friday the Elementary class will start at 6 pm and the Intermediate class at 7.30 pm. On Saturday and Sunday the Elementary class will start at 12 noon and the Intermediate class at 1.30 pm. On Monday, the Elementary class will start at 4.30 pm and the Intermediate class at 6.00 pm.

The cost for each class will be 15 pounds per hour or with payment in advance (at least 48 hours) 50 pounds for all 4 days. With payment in advance (at least 48 hours) the cost for both classes for all 4 days is 100 pounds. Payment on the day of the course will be 15 pounds per hour.

For those who have never danced Flamenco before,, Maria Therese Connolly is also offering a taster class. The times for this class are Friday 5.00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 11.00 am and Monday 7.30pm. The cost is 8 pounds per hour or 30 pounds for all 4 days. Payment on the day of the course will be 8 pounds per hour.

The guitar workshop will be 1 hour each day and will be taught by Lucas Gonzalez. The times for this class are Friday 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am and Monday 7.30pm. The cost is 12 pounds per hour or 40 pounds for all 4 days. Payment on the day of the course will be 12 pounds per hour. Guitarists will also be able to sit in on the dance workshops and receive instruction from Lucas during the workshops.
