Creative & Cultural Skills has been working with designers to establish a NI Design Alliance with the vision of promoting professional standards and developing skills that will keep NI design a step ahead in global markets. This is a significant development for the NI design industry and this launch presents a key opportunity for designers to hear first hand why this is important for business and how to get involved.

Jonathan Sands has been greatly involved in the UK Design Skills Alliance campaign. Jonathan is Chairman of Elmwood, the international brand design consultancy famous for winning more DBA Design Effectiveness Awards than any other consultancy ever! With offices in Asia, North America and mainland Europe, Jonathan’s work takes him all around the world. Elmwood’s clients include ASDA, BBC, Durex, The COI, Glasgow 2014, McCain, Royal Mail, Nestle and Nike, to name but a few. In the last five years the consultancy has been the recipient of over 100 national and international design awards. Jonathan is a former Chairman of the Design Business Association (1995 – 97) and has been a council member of the Design Council for the last ten years.

Jonathan will talk about why he believes skills are important based on his personal experience of building Elmwood over the last 25+ years to become “The World’s most effective brand consultancy” and a Sunday Times top 100 company to work for. He will talk about how investing in people has made Elmwood the company it is today and what he believes are the skills people should be investing in to compete in the future.
